How do I know if I need a new roof?

We can assist you in making that determination after personally inspecting the roof. Signs of needing a new roof include:

  • Shingles begin to curl up
  • Granule loss (which is hard to notice unless you’re on the roof)
  • Shingles that have lifted up or nails that have popped out
  • Shingle seals are broken

What are my roof repair options?

If you have a newer roof with limited damageā€”for example, if a few shingles are curled up or missingā€”we can attempt to match and replace them.

If your roof needs to be replaced and has only one layer, you have the option of adding a second layer on top of the first. However, in most cases we tear off the existing shingles.

How many layers can my roof have?

You should have no more than two layers. Anything beyond this can cause structural damage due to the excess weight of the roof.

What determines the cost of a new roof?

Several factors contribute to the cost of a new roof:

  • Shingle type
  • Square footage
  • The number of layers
  • Pitch (steepness)
  • Height (in some cases)

When is the best time of year to replace my roof?

We work year-round, but manufacturers recommend against doing roof applications when the temperature is below 45 degrees, because this prevents the shingles from sealing properly.

How often do I need to replace my roof?

It depends on the type of shingle. Most newer dimensional shingles start at 30 years, with some lasting 40-50 years or longer. Three-tab shingles last about 25 years, but can warrant replacing after 18-20 years.

Do all shingles have the same wind resistance?

No. Dimensional shingles are heavier and are rated for winds of up to 130 miles per hour, while typical three-tab shingles are wind resistant up to 60 m.p.h.

Do you offer any warranties or guarantees?

Yes, we offer a 10 year warranty on labor, in addition to the shingle manufacturer’s warranty on the product itself.

How much experience do you have?

Each crew member at EMA Construction has 20+ years of roofing experience.

What types of shingles do you offer?

We offer dimensional and three-tab shingles from Atlas, Owens Corning, GAF, CertainTeed, and Tamko. We prefer Atlas Pristine Shingles featuring Scotchgardā„¢ Protector from 3M, because they have a lifetime limited warranty and lifetime algae protection.

Can you match the color of my current shingles?

In most cases, we can match the color very closely. It depends on whether your shingle has been discontinued and, if so, whether we can find something comparable.
